Welcome to Bullaun Ark – Where Nature Thrives
The Bullaun Ark is more than just a garden – it’s a sanctuary for life. Here, we cultivate not only food but also a deep connection to the land, embracing regenerative and holistic farming practices that nurture the soil, support biodiversity, and restore balance to our ecosystem.
At Bullaun Ark, we believe in farming that heals – the land, the community, and the future.
In 2020, Charles Carr, with the support of his family, transformed a neglected 7-acre plot in East Galway into The Bullaun Ark, a beacon of regenerative and biodynamic farming. Starting with a field that had been conventionally farmed for years, Charles embraced no-dig practices and regenerative techniques to restore soil health and biodiversity.

where over 150 varieties of vegetables, edible flowers, and exotic berries thrive in harmony with the land. By focusing on sustainable methods, including the use of mushroom compost and occasional liquid seaweed fertilizer, Charles has revived the soil, encouraging the return of diverse bird and insect species.
In one of the farm's polytunnels, Charles integrates aquaponics, an innovative system where fish and plants coexist, producing rare herbs and specialty crops for Galway’s top restaurants. This combination of cutting-edge techniques and traditional no-dig farming has enabled The Bullaun Ark to supply high-quality produce to local markets, restaurants, and the community while showcasing a sustainable path forward for agriculture.
Beyond growing food, The Bullaun Ark has become a haven for biodiversity, with wildflower planting and dug ponds offering shelter and habitat for local wildlife. Charles’s journey exemplifies the power of perseverance, innovation, and sustainable farming to transform even the most depleted land into a flourishing ecosystem.
The Bullaun Ark is more than a farm – it’s a story of regeneration, community, and a vision for a sustainable future.
